All the wildfires burning in the Western United States has brought lots of smoky skies this week. You can hardly see the mountain and the sunrise and sunset turns the sun a brilliant shade of red.
I caught the sun just peaking the mountain on my way in to work this morning.
Wednesday ended up being a very busy day and I think the day I took the most photos. Also the day I mainly used the big camera.
I ended up going in to work and not having a lot to do. So I stayed to mix up my breakfast (my work has the nice big Vitamix blenders) and headed home.
I was surprised to see this guy already up and playing on the floor in my room. What else but Minecraft.
I've slacked on the chore lists over the summer. All the days seemed to blend together and some days we get a lot done and other days we hang out and chill. Today was a day I planned on trying to keep the boys busy and knew if I wanted Wes to get something done he needed to know what I expected of him.
This picture of Wes . . . I went in to wake him up and all I saw were those huge feet of his. He wears a size 12 shoe and when we went school shopping a couple of weeks ago we bought him a size 13.
Our mail comes early - 9:30. Thomas loves to take Nessa's mail down to her.
I went out to mow the lawn and started weeding the front flower beds while the boys ate breakfast. As soon as I was done with the front I grabbed them and had them help me start cleaning up the back.
Wes attacked the Chinese maples with a hand saw while I trimmed up the "spider bush". Thomas helped by stacking all the clippings onto a tarp we placed on the grass. They weren't always happy with me. It was hot, the bushes were prickly, but I made them stay until we were done and I explained how it's not always fun, but hard work is necessary in life and we have to finish what we start.
Hoping that lesson sunk in a little.
I also trimmed up the front rose bushes since they had started getting a little overgrown.
I fixed us lunch and the boys enjoyed the Lego movie while waiting. Thomas heard Wes was suppose to take him on a bike ride and put his helmet on and wore it all through lunch to be ready. ;)
Thomas ended up getting a cut from the yard work and went inside and got himself a band-aid. He even managed to put it on himself.
Wes is super patient with Thomas. They ended up riding a couple of blocks to the church, went around the church several times and then rode home. Thomas is still a little slow and ends up getting his training wheels stuck in the grass. Wesley rides super slow and often has to stop and push him out when he gets stuck.
It ends up being more of a nuisance for Wes and he doesn't enjoy it that much, but today it ended up being an item on his list to get done for the day so he knew I expected it of him. I don't want to "make" him do everything, but like yard work he needed to get out of the house and do something and I knew it was a way to get him to do it. #evillaugh
After the bike ride and more chores they enjoyed more screen time. I peeked into their room and Thomas was sitting with Wes still wearing his bike helmet.
Since I was in Cub Scouts and now YW, Wednesday for years has meant pizza for dinner. The boys are die hard in this tradition and I end up cooking myself something else to eat. It's really a win-win. I only have to cook for me and they get something they love.
My dinner . . .
YM/YW combined activity for tonight's activity. The Young Men were in charge this month and we were split into three teams and sent on a service scavenger hunt. Each service was given a point value and we were sent into the ward boundaries to do service. Activities included pick up dog poop, mow a lawn, take garbage can to curb, pull weeks, pick up garbage, heart attack, find an inactive friend and have them join in the scavenger hunt, walk a dog, sweep a driveway and sidewalk.
The team I helped out ended up splitting in two and I ended up helping/herding the boys along.
The most disgusting thing on the list and the boys ended up clearing a whole back yard. Not their favorite, but they finished it.
We were in the library cutting up and writing on hearts for heart atacks.
The counting of the points and seeing what team won.
When we first arrived at the church for the evening and the YM president was explaining the rules and going over the items on our lists one of the items on the list was "Find a youth not at activity, pick them up and have them join". Wesley got a huge grin on his face and knew exactly where he was heading. He took a walk with Shane and picked up three of his friends bringing 60 points for his team.
The funny part was another team got to his friends house first and were trying to persuade him to join them. River refused and even ended up closing the door in their faces. Wesley arrived and River quickly got ready and went with them.
His team ended up winning. He was so excited that he helped bring it home for his team and that he had his best friends there with him.
